Sauerkraut days is an annual tradition in Ackley that takes place in June. For over 100 years this four day event brings people together for a celebration that is complete with carnival rides, live entertainment, free wieners and sauerkraut, a grand parade, and many other events.

Excellent hiking and cross country skiing trails with a new four season lodge available for public use. Picnic areas, horseback riding, canoing, fishing and hunting. This 280-acre area has a 12-acre lake stocked with bass and bluegill. Piers are easily accessible for users with limited mobility. Along the 12-mile hiking, horseback riding and cross country skiing trail prairie flowers cover the ground.

Located south of Highway 3 directly across from the Franklin County Courthouse. Park may be reserved for events at City Hall, with completion of a rental agreement and payment of a $100.00 deposit (refundable upon satisfactory inspection by City staff of the premises following the event). The Hampton Municipal Band performs weekly concerts at this venue during June and first part of July, and such events as Summerfest and other community celebrations are held at this location. Contact the Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce (641-456-5668) regarding schedules and details for these festivities. |

Beeds Lake provides over one mile of great shoreline fishing as well as a boat ramp for access to the lake. Beeds Lake also has two miles of walking trail. A 170 foot long spillway with horizontal layers of limestone drops an abruptly 40 feet. Beeds lake offers 99 electrical and 44 non electrical camping sites, picnic shelters, fishing with a bait house open during summer season, boating, swimming, hiking, biking and jogging trails. |

One of Iowa’s top county fairs that features a historical emphasis that makes it unique. Grandstand shows include a PRCA Rodeo and stage shows with top country recording stars. Grandpa’s Farm has old time farming demonstrations with vintage equipment powered by draft horses, steam engines, and antique tractors.. During the fair the early 1900’s town, Pleasant Hill, has demonstrations, craftsmen, entertainment, and reenactments. The fair has a free gate and parking and limited camping available.
